At EarthDance Institute, we are dedicated to fostering environmental stewardship among young people. Our mission is to empower the next generation with the knowledge and skills needed to create a sustainable future. This photo is an EarthDance group in the rainforest of Costa Rica learning about how our individual choices at home can impact a rainforest far away.
"The one thing we need more than hope is action. Once we start to act, hope is everywhere."
Greta Thunberg
Even the simplest of acts, such as planting trees can have a profound impact on the conscience of a young person.
Even though the work required for us to shift directions environmentally seems daunting, at EarthDance we believe that if we work together nothing is impossible! Even with science telling us otherwise, we can learn from our mistakes and change the direction we are heading environmentally.
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has”.
Margaret Mead
Come together with young people from all around WNC who share your concern for the future of our world and want to make a difference! Click on the link and fill out the form. It's free!
Thursday evening meetings are a chance for participants to talk about things that are not normally talked about at school, at home or with their peers. These are concerns that weigh on them, consciously and unconsciously about our world. This is a safe place for them to express themselves honestly, on the deepest levels and with the attention and support of everyone in the circle.
Members identify real problems that are affecting their community and/or world. Together they research issues, then work together to come up with real solutions that can effectively address and overcome the problem. Viable solutions get the full support of EarthDance so that the solutions are then implemented.
Perhaps the most important part of EarthDance is working with youth members inside our community. When we speak about caring for our environment that includes caring for each other and the members of our community. Learning that giving back in life, at home, at school, at work and in our community is critical in the ushering in a new way of living on Earth.
There may be no more profound an act to demonstrate a belief in tomorrow and our future than planting a tree. Join us, as we join with other local and national organizations such as the Sierra Club and Nature Conservancy in their efforts to plant millions of trees each year. Planting trees is work. And it is a fun, exciting and powerful way of creating lasting bonds and new friends while doing something positive for our future. Most important the physical act of planting and caring for a tree inspires HOPE and a belief in the future and our ability as individuals to impact the world!
Young people between the ages of 13-21, are invited to participate. All submissions must focus on the contestant’s feelings and beliefs about their relationship to our world or to the Earth itself. Each submission should be in writing and when possible, be accompanied by a video interview of the author. Exciting prizes will be offered to the winners as well as local and national media recognition. Next contest will take place in the fall of 2025.
A new online Channel focused on young people, a place for people young and old, to tune in and see how young people, our future generations, are experiencing life in the world today. We often wonder what our children are really thinking about things, this will be a place where they can share with their community and world what is going on inside. While discussions on environmental issues will be at the forefront of the channel, we will dig into all kinds of issues that are in the forefront of the minds of our young people around the world.
Young people who feel they have something important to say are invited to share their words on camera. Individual interviews and regular group discussions will be filmed and uploaded weekly to the EarthDance Channel. There is nothing more powerful than a young person speaking from their heart about their concerns and feelings on an issue that is affecting their life and endangering their future.
Every quarter EarthDance will produce an event where a respected figure in our world will present their views to our community. Speakers will be selected by their writings or their work that is contributing to positive changes in the world. These events will be recorded and posted on the EarthDance Channel.
Mindfulness teachings give people a powerful tool that will support them in being the very best version of themselves.
Young people are dealing with pressure from school-work, drama among friends and stress from everyday life. Many teens are living with anxiety, depression and mental health conditions like ADHD. According to a study published by the American College Health Association (ACHA) in 2022, 77% of students said they experienced some level of psychological distress, either moderate or severe.
Mindfulness practice is a powerful tool to assist young people in coping with stress and anxiety in their lives.
I have lived in the Asheville area for the last 35 years. I originally founded EarthDance in 1991. It lived a short five year life, the timing was not right. I believe it's time is now. If you agree with the importance of this work, please join with me to bring EarthDance into the lives of young people everywhere!
